Preparing our children for future employment is important. For children who are legally blind, AVRE offers pre-vocational skills training, work employment training, and paid Internships. These services allow our young participants to experience the responsibility of having a job, learn how to dress and interact appropriately at work, and develop a sense of professionalism. These are typically short term, paid experiences, which are paid for through AVRE, and they pose no legal risk to the business.

Socialization Program

Growing up with vision loss can sometimes feel isolating, which is why connecting with others who share similar experiences is so important. Our Socialization Program gives children and teens who are blind or visually impaired the opportunity to build friendships, have fun, and support one another in a welcoming environment.

Through group activities, community outings, and special events, participants develop confidence, independence, and important social skills while meeting other youth who understand the unique challenges of living with vision loss. Whether it's trying a new activity, sharing experiences, or simply spending time with peers, the program encourages lasting friendships and helps participants realize they are not alone.

The Socialization Program is offered at no cost to participants through funding provided by the New York State Commission for the Blind.
