  1. JOB IDENTIFICATION
    1. TITLE: Director of Vision Rehabilitation Services
    2. REPORTS TO: President/CEO
    3. FLSA STATUS: Exempt
  1. STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

The Director provides leadership and operations management in program planning, quality assurance, contract management, negotiations, and customer/consumer relations within the Vision Rehabilitation Services Division. The Director is responsible for providing leadership and management to ensure timely services, team building and maintaining a positive work culture. The Director assists and supports the President/CEO in the identification of new service partners, revenue opportunities, reviewing program relevance, and initiating new programs and other duties within the parameters of the position.

 

  1. RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE WORK OF OTHERS

The Director has direct supervisory responsibility for the quality of work, skill acquisition, and productivity of professional clinical staff within the VRS department.

 

  1. BUSINESS COMMUNICATION
    1. Communication with the President/CEO is ongoing.
    2. Communication with AVRE Board of Directors is as designated.
    3. Communication with department staff is frequent through individual and staff supervision/meetings.
    4. Communication with contracting agencies, funding and referral organizations is frequent.
    5. Communication with AVRE Business Division staff and employees is regular.
    6. Communication with participants/consumers, professionals, peers and collateral groups and organizations is regular.

 

  1. SUPERVISION REQUIRED

The position requires self-direction and independent action within appropriate agency, regulatory and funding/referral source policies, practices, and guidelines.

 

  1. EDUCATION REQUIRED

This position requires a minimum of a Bachelors level degree, Masters preferred, in a directly related human service field.

 

  1. TRAINING AND SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED
    1. The position requires special knowledge of Human Services quality assurance/compliance, contracting, planning, and management.
    2. The position requires special knowledge of supervision, performance-management, employee motivation, and team building.
    3. It requires competency in budgeting and expense control, contract negotiation, and external partner relations.
    4. Special knowledge and/or experience about disability or vision disability are helpful.

 

  1. EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
    1. Minimum of ten years of demonstrated results in human services/healthcare related field required.
    2. Minimum of five years of demonstrated management/leadership experience required.
    3. Experience with visually impaired individuals is preferred.

 

  1. SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    1. Serve as a positive, uplifting role model and resource for others.
    2. Recruit, hire and retain individuals who demonstrate agency core values and required performance competencies.
    3. Mentor direct reports, communicate expectations, provide frequent and regular training to build upon employee strengths and skills.
    4. Measure and enhance quality/productivity of service delivery.
    5. Manage and monitor government (and other) contracts including assuring satisfactory performance, submission of reports, maximum funding etc.
    6. Meet or exceed budget, revenue, and expense projections.
    7. Manage key relationships between the organization and its service partners.
    8. Identify new partners to enhance services and agency resources.
    9. Monitor and measure consumer satisfaction with services provided.
    10. Identify key points of negotiation for contracts including relevant budget, staffing, and performance requirements.
    11. Research and develop additional funding/referral/support resources.
    12. Represent AVRE in appropriate community, professional, consumer and related organizations.
    13. Maintain an awareness of industry and market best practices/trends, contribute ideas and efforts to the achievement of long-term goals with special attention to general disability and vision disability.
    14. Actively participate in the senior leadership team; assist in the development of the agency strategic plan as well as the annual financial and operating objectives.
    15. Other duties as assigned.
