JOB IDENTIFICATION
TITLE: Plant Manager
REPORTS TO: Director of Operations
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:
The Plant Manager oversees AVRE’s manufacturing operations, facilities, and maintenance programs. He/she is responsible for overseeing workflow, process methods, workforce utilization and facility optimization and efficiencies.
RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE WORK OF OTHERS:

BUSINESS COMMUNICATION:

Communication with facility and equipment vendors and contractors is ongoing.

Communication with the Director of Operations is ongoing.

Communication with Production Manager is frequent.

Communication with the Director of Human Resources is ongoing.
-
Communication with Inventory/Purchasing Manager is frequent.
-
Communication with Facilities and Maintenance staff is frequent.
-
Communication with Shipping and Logistics Manager is frequent.
SUPERVISION REQUIRED:
-
The position requires self-direction within the appropriate agency practices and guidelines, but in close coordination with senior leadership.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
-
Ten years of direct experience in a manufacturing operation, and a minimum of five years in a supervisory or managerial role.

Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline is preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
-
Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the workday.
-
Frequently moves objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
-
Constantly positions self to reach overhead, forward, and out to the sides to lift, rotate, carry, etc.
-
Must be alert and aware of surroundings for safety concerns.

TRAINING AND SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

Strong knowledge of facility and manufacturing/production equipment and preventative maintenance systems.
-
Knowledge of HVAC systems and controls.
-
Knowledge of security/fire protection systems and controls.
-
Knowledge of construction methods and techniques
-
Ability to negotiate with facility and machinery vendors and contractors and maintain business partnerships.
-
Maintain quality relationships with partners and suppliers.
-
Ability to work collaboratively in a diverse work environment with all levels of employees.
-
Experience with material/inventory planning and shipping software and systems preferred.
-
Knowledge of supply chain, production and processing, and customer service.
-
Good written and verbal communication skills.
-
Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
-
Must be able to operate material handling equipment and local delivery truck.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
-
Ensure the facility, facility equipment, and production equipment are maintained and in good/efficient working condition.
-
Production Planning – Collaborate with the Production Manager on weekly production planning needs.
-
Support in the research, procurement and implementation of production equipment to meet current and future production needs/opportunities.
-
Develop/fabricate special jigs and fixtures to make production equipment/systems accessible for people who are blind or visually impaired.
-
Assist in the development/implementation of adaptive technology to make production equipment/systems accessible for people who are blind/visually impaired.
-
Maintain optimum staffing levels to meet production and facility needs.
-
Understand the operation, repair, and maintenance of all production and facility equipment.
-
Develop standard reports to measure key performance indicators. Report frequently to senior leadership team.
Safety – Actively oversee/enforce AVRE’s safety program.
-
Implement manufacturing safety policies and programs that comply with state and federal workplace requirements.
-
Interact with regulatory agencies and maintain knowledge of applicable regulations, standards, and compliance.
-
Work directly with the Director of Human Resources and ensure safety procedures with frequent meetings, appropriate training, and recertifications.
Inventory – Collaborate with the Inventory and Purchasing Manager and Shipping and Logistics Manager to ensure production and on-time delivery goals are met.
Management of Staff – Direct and monitor department managers/supervisors to accomplish daily production goals.

Proactively hire, train, and evaluate direct reports.

Effectively oversee training and monitor work of direct labor employees.

Act as a liaison between direct reports and senior leadership to inform personnel of agency communications, decisions, and policies.
Maintenance and Facility Management:
-
Identify, recommend, and implement changes to improve productivity and reduce costs and waste.
-
Ensure preventive maintenance occurs throughout the manufacturing floor.
-
Oversee routine facility and equipment maintenance.
-
Develop, plan, and manage annual maintenance and repair budget.
-
Identify and execute building modifications, major equipment and facility repairs, capital improvements, etc. Assist internal staff and contractors with facility layout and design as necessary.

Coordinate with senior leadership in sales and business trend analysis. Support Business Development team in meeting sales goals and objectives.
