EMPLOYMENT
AND CAREER SERVICES
A.V.R.E.
offers a variety of employment options for individuals who
have a vision disability. We understand the importance of
desire, choice, qualifications, availability and options
regarding employment and economic independence. Our options
are designed to offer the widest range of training, employment
and career development based on your skills and wishes.
Colleen Ciarletta, our Employment and Career
Specialist, is continuing A.V.R.E.'s long-standing policy of
working hard to place visually impaired
people into employment opportunities, such as: community businesses, summer work internships, our
on-site manufacturing plant, or our switchboard operation
through the Veterans Administration. With as much as 70
percent of the blind population not working, the goal of
A.V.R.E. is to reduce the non-working rate of people with a
vision disability so that it is at least equal to non-vision
impaired individuals.
Placement Services
A.V.R.E. placement services help individuals prepare and
search for employment. Assistance and guidance is available in
such things as resume' writing, interviewing techniques and
strategies, computer skills and assessments, job search
networking, employer consultation, and social and
communication skills. While the individual is ultimately
responsible, A.V.R.E. can help him or her get there!

A.V.R.E.
Manufacturing
A.V.R.E. offers employment options in our modern manufacturing facility.
Employees work at a variety of tasks to produce high quality
paper products such as manila and press board file folders,
general purpose copy/printing paper and computer paper.

Call
Center
Employment
A.V.R.E. currently holds a contract with the Veterans
Administration for switchboard operations at two VA hospital
campuses in
the Mid-Hudson region. Our employees are responsible for
processing all
incoming calls and they also monitor the hospital alarm
systems, with responsibility for dispatching the appropriate
response teams.

Summer
Employment / School To Work Transition
A.V.R.E. works with young people with a vision
disability in obtaining summer work or jobs that are part of a
school-to-work transition program. The key element is to
obtain the broadest experience possible to prepare for an
independent and successful working life.
