"Invest in the Vision," the Capital Campaign of the Association for Vision Rehabilitation and Employment, Inc (A.V.R.E.), has two new partners whose investments are helping to create a Center of Excellence in Vision Rehabilitation for the Twin Tiers.

The Conrad and Virginia Klee Foundation awarded A.V.R.E. $250,000 toward the renovation of its new facility at 174 Court Street.  The renovations will give A.V.R.E. the space and physical capacity it needs to house many new and enhanced services for people of all ages with a vision disability.

The New York and Bermuda Lions Foundation have awarded A.V.R.E. a $5,000 grant through the Binghamton Lions Club to purchase furnishings for the waiting room of its new Low Vision Clinic.  The Low Vision clinic is the first of many new services that A.V.R.E. will offer for infants through elders in its 12-county, 9,000 square mile service area.

“As a blind person myself, I know personally how much the results of these investments will mean to the current and future generations of people who are blind or have low vision.  We are deeply grateful to the Klee and NY/Bermuda Lions Foundations for their support of our mission,” said Association Board Chair Mel Rhinebeck.

A.V.R.E. has received gifts or pledges amounting to 84 % of its “Invest in the Vision” campaign goal.  The campaign is scheduled to run through the end of calendar year 2008.
